Colloquy Privacy Policy
In short
Colloquy is a chat client. It has no accounts, no Colloquy server, no advertising and no analytics. Your conversations and settings stay on your phone. The only data that leaves your phone is what you choose to send to the AI provider you set up, using your own API key.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy describes how the Colloquy app (“Colloquy”, “the app”), developed and published by Sableyard, handles information. It applies only to the app, not to the AI providers you connect to.
2. Information we collect
The developer does not collect, receive or store any personal information from your use of Colloquy. There is no Colloquy account, no Colloquy backend and no Colloquy cloud database. The app contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software.
3. Information stored on your device
The following is stored only on your device, in the app’s private storage:
- your conversations and messages;
- images and files you attach to messages;
- your provider settings (which providers and models you use) and app preferences;
- your API keys, which are encrypted using a key held in the Android Keystore before they are stored.
Colloquy does not separately encrypt your conversations beyond the protection Android provides (the app sandbox and your device lock and storage encryption). Anyone who can unlock your phone can use the app.
4. Information sent to AI providers
When you send a message, Colloquy sends the message text, any attachments you included, your custom instructions, and enough of the earlier conversation to give the model context. This is sent directly from your phone to the provider and model you selected, authenticated with the API key you provided for that provider. Colloquy supports providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini), xAI, Mistral, Groq, DeepSeek, Perplexity and OpenRouter, and custom endpoints that you add yourself.
Your API key is sent only to the provider it belongs to. How a provider stores, processes or uses what you send is governed by that provider’s own privacy policy and terms, not by this policy. If you add a custom endpoint, you decide where your data is sent and are responsible for trusting that service.
5. Web search
If you turn on web search for a model that supports it, your query may be passed by that provider to its own search service. Colloquy does not run a search service.
6. Permissions
- Internet and network state: to reach the AI provider you configured and to check whether you are online.
- Vibration: for optional haptic feedback, which you can turn off in Settings.
- Microphone: requested only when you tap the microphone button to dictate a message. Speech is converted to text by your device’s speech recognition service (for example the Google speech service on many phones). Depending on your device and settings, that service may process audio on your device or send it to its operator’s servers. Colloquy does not record or store audio and does not send audio to AI providers.
- Camera: Colloquy does not hold the camera permission. When you choose Camera, your device’s camera app takes the picture and hands it to Colloquy.
7. Read aloud
The read-aloud feature uses Android’s built-in text-to-speech engine. The text being read is processed by that engine. Some voices on some devices are provided over the network by the engine’s operator, according to your device settings.
8. Sharing and exports
Colloquy shares your data only when you ask it to, for example when you export or share a conversation. Exports contain your conversation content and the provider and model names. They never contain an API key. Where an exported file goes after that depends on the app or service you choose.
9. Retention and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device until you delete it. You can delete a single conversation from the chat history, remove one provider’s API key from that provider’s settings, or use Settings → Data & Privacy → “Delete all local data” to remove every conversation, key, provider setting and preference. Uninstalling the app also removes its stored data from your device. Data already sent to an AI provider must be deleted through that provider.
10. Children
Colloquy is not directed to children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
11. Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change.
